The 3-week nautical course (Module 2)encompasses all basic competencies of the hydrographic surveyor as defined by the IHO Monaco standards for “Class B” hydrographic surveyor. Basic subjects: Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Nautical Science and Information and Communication Technology The 12-week hydrographic course (Module 3 & 4) encompasses all professional competencies of the hydrographic surveyor as defined by the IHO Monaco standards for “Class B” hydrographic surveyor Essential subjects: Bathymetry, Water levels and Flow, Positioning, Hydrographic Practice, Hydrographic Data Management, Environmental Science & Legal Aspects Possible Optional subjects & Hydrography for Coastal zone management, Offshore seismic or Construction Hydrography. Possible Practical exercises: Tide Gauge, Horizontal Control (field and office work), large scale survey, harbour or river or coastal survey, bottom sampling, multibeam and offshore construction



This course is intended for candidates working or applying for a job in the field of hydrographic surveying in the marine oil and gas industry, coastal and port environment, hydrographic services and offshore construction. The course provides a practical knowledge and comprehension of hydrographic surveying for individuals and develops skills to carry out the various operational tasks. The level of the training course is undergraduate (HND)/MBO level 4

Module 1: 5 days basic safety training (STCW 95) – optional Module 2: 3 weeks nautical and basic subject training – depending on entry level of candidate Module 3: 8 weeks hydrographic surveying Module 4: 4 weeks on site training. The program is supported by companies operating in the marine oil and gas industry, coastal and port environment and ydrographic services

Candidates applying should be in possession of a nautical or technical diploma at undergraduate level (HND) or MBO level 3 or higher. Applicants without a nautical qualification (CoC Deck Officer Cass III FG, SKA, SWK/Maritime Officer 3000 GT or equivalent) can participate in the training course only after having completed a 3 week nautical training in which they will be educated in basic coastal navigation.

Furthermore the STCW training course Basic Safety is optional, pending practical / training period. Candidates already in possession of this certificate or an equivalent offshore safety certificate are exempted from this module. The course will be taught in English and therefore all candidates should have a good command of the English language.

Skilltrade BV – STC BV certificate Hydrographic Surveyor “Class B”. After 2 years of service in the industry as a hydrographic surveyor the IHO diploma can be officially issued. The course is streamlined with the IMCA guidelines for a Surveyor Grade I

The course can be taken in its entirety or in modular parts for those candidates holding a valid degree to cover the basic module or in hydrographic surveying, wishing to refresh their skills or supplement their knowledge.
